Dear english canadiens,
I had wanted for a long, long time to talk with you. I wanted to tell you what I have to say in your own language so you understand me.
I do not have any hatred towards you tough I am a sovereignist from Quebec and very proud of it.
I wish we could discuss and debate face to face while drinking a beer or else, switching languages time to time (assuming you can speak french).
We do share parts in our common North-American history but you must understand why we want to make our own steps in it.
I will try to be short, reply my messages if you want to exchange more words. After reading me, I really hope that my people will inspire some respect and comprehension from yours. The base of a good relationship is reciprocity.
First: Our french ancestors killed their king, it is very humiliating to submit to a queen from a different culture. With the riots of les Patriotes, 1937-1938 we only wanted a republican democratie. You must understand how ridiculous it seems to us, in the 21st century, to be in that situation of submission to royalty.
Second: Everyone thinks with words. We, french canadians, think in different words and structures than you do. That's make a fundamental difference of thoughts between our cultures. We both explore different ways of human intellect, we look at the world with similar eyes but how we analyze and express it is fundamentally not the same. We should have the right to speak our thoughts and words directly to the rest of the world
Third: New-France was a colonie lost by France in the profit of England. We lost a ''war'' you won. The facts are we still feel as if we were a colonie under jurisdiction of the english government because we are different people and cultures and still submitted to yours. Quebec has taken a huge step towards technical and intellectual devellopement, wich doesn't seem to be respected by our fellow canadians who see us as dumb french speaking frogs with no culture, french-canadians pea-soup with no future. Remember that WE were the only canadians at the beginning...
Fourth: There is not much cultural or langue diversity in North America because everything tends to blend in the American mass-culture. It makes hard, being only a province, to show our culture and everything we are to others. To be a country would mean to share with others, to exchange with you and the world as absolute equals. No superior and no inferior.
Fifth: I believe our relationship would be more amiable if Quebec was a country on its own. Right now, we are two cultures fighting each other under the same flag. Quebec's independance means the end of animosity between us and the possibility to express points of you in a friendly way. A new era of friendship!
